Great loop is the name given to the circumnavigation of the eastern part of North America. This is sometimes referred to as the Great Circle Route and depending on the options used for the navigation; the trip could vary between 5000 miles and 7500 miles. Personal water crafts and yachts are generally used for the great loop, though sailboats and powerboats are used as well. Boaters who travel the great loop are known by the name loopers. Some loopers try to take advantage of the downstream current of the rivers including Illinois, Mississippi, Tombigbee and the Black Warrior River, by following counterclockwise direction. |
