Great loop is the name given to the circumnavigation of the eastern part of North America. This is sometimes referred to as the Great Circle Route and depending on the options used for the navigation; the trip could vary between 5000 miles and 7500 miles. Personal water crafts and yachts are generally used for the great loop, though sailboats and powerboats are used as well.
Boaters who travel the great loop are known by the name loopers. Some loopers try to take advantage of the downstream current of the rivers including Illinois, Mississippi, Tombigbee and the Black Warrior River, by following counterclockwise direction. |

The Great Loop that is also popularly known as the Great Circle Route is a spectacular and beautiful stretch of waterway that continuously runs throughout the Eastern parts of North America. This stretch of water that many boaters only dream of visiting includes the inland rivers within areas that have come to be known as America’s heartland, the beautiful Great Lakes, the Atlantic and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterways, and the Canadian Heritage Canals.
If you are someone who plans to travel any part of the Great Loop, you are in for a real treat and you can be assured that it will be one adventure that you will not soon forget.
